The tennis tournament in Cincinnati (US) with its $2.8 million prize pool is coming to a close. Russian Ekaterina Makarova and Czech Lucie Hradecká have won the doubles.
In the final, the Russo-Czech duo beat another international team — Elise Mertens (Belgium) and Demi Schuurs (Netherlands). Ekaterina and Lucie won 6:2 and 7:5 in the two games. The match lasted an hour and 12 minutes.
«The final was very tough, our opponents played an excellent game. I want to thank my team, my coach, and my physiotherapist — we had a great week and I’m looking forward to the future.
Demi beat me last week but it was nice to be on the winning side this time.», Makarova is quoted as saying on the official WTA website.
This was Makarova’s first title in nine years which she won without being in a duo with Elena Vesnina.
This marks Ekaterina’s second trophy of the season and the 14th of her career.
